Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) affects women

Do you think you are suffering from weakened or limp looking hair? Women suffering from Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) may notice symptoms of excessive hair growth on strange parts of their bodies, hair loss and/or acne.

What is Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome ?

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome is a group of medical conditions which form an overall diagnosis. There is can also be an over production of sebum, so extremely greasy hair is another symptom.  The lack of, or infrequent menstrual cycles are additional indicators.

What happens when you have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Women suffering from PCOS may notice symptoms of excessive hair growth on unusual parts of their bodies, hair loss and/or acne.  The hormone imbalance causes an over production of sebum, so extremely greasy hair is a frequent issue.  Irregular or non-existent periods are also a common factor of PCOS.  The hair at the top and centre of the head thins and the scalp becomes visible.   This can affect young females around the ages of 14-19 years old and is very traumatic.  We aim to assist with supporting this condition in terms of hair shedding, by slowing down the rate of hair loss with the aim to stop the shedding completely.

What Causes Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome is caused by cysts present on the ovaries which unbalance your female hormones.  If you're suffering from Insulin resistance and obesity, these can also be factors affecting your hair condition.

How does Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome affect the hair?

Hair loss experienced with PCOS is caused by the raised testosterone levels and several other factors.  Women affected by PCOS have hair which can appear very straggly, thin, lank, lifeless and dull. After each hair growth cycle the hair thins over and over gain, until the body is bought into balance.
