Thinning Hair

Thinning hair has many causative factors

Thinning hair generally happens at differing points in life, however, this can prove worrying and stressful when unexplained, abundant hair loss occurs.   The impact of even the slightest thinning hair can have a negative, knock on effect on our daily lives and how we feel.

 What is thinning hair?

Thinning hair or gradual diffuse hair loss is suggestive of several causative conditions, such as telogen effluvium, hormonal imbalances or alopecia areata for example. The anagen phase of hair growth is interrupted and hair is seen in a weakened state and in less volume throughout the scalp.

What happens when you have thinning hair?

If you are experiencing thinning hair,  you will notice that you can see your scalp through your hair, especially when it is wet.

During a normal hair growth cycle your hair grows, rests, then falls out.  This period last for between 2-7 years in an healthy person.

However, if you're unwell, stressed or your hormones are 'out of whack' this cycle is interrupted, so that the resting phase is extended and the growing phased is shortened.   The quality and density of the hair is also impacted.

Although hair density varies from person-to-person, if you are experiencing 'abnormal' hair loss then book an appointment with a professional trichologist. This will help to quickly diagnose the cause, and start the appropriate treatment.

What causes thinning hair?

Stress and fatigue are often seen with people suffering with thinning hair.  The trichologist's job is to attempt to ascertain the cause of the thinning hair. Thinning hair can, in some cases, be an indicator of an underlying illness, poor nutrition or even heat damage.

The precise cause of thinning hair can be determined during consultation with the trichologist and after confirmation of blood test results.  This way a more accurate diagnosis can be made and therefore, an appropriate and effective treatment plan for improvement and possibly a cure for the hair thinning ultimately.

Who can be affected by thinning hair?

Thinning hair is a condition that can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity.  If we consider stress to be major triggering factor, it is understandable how tricky it is to stop hair falling out.

We can all be affected by our hair suddenly or randomly shedding in large amounts.  It's a question of getting to the core of the cause, that's the answer become treatment can begin.

How is thinning hair treated?

Here at TrichoSynergy we treat men and women with thinning hair - this is my speciality.   After your consultation, I create a personalised hair and scalp treatment plan for you.  I will examine your hair condition and endeavour to diagnose the cause of your thinning hair.

I will then take the next appropriate steps to support you on your journey to improving  density and volume, which may require external products to camouflage any large areas of visible scalp, so they blend and cannot be seen.  I may recommend SMP to temporarily cover the area of scalp with a diffuse treatment
