Who can be affected by alopecia?


Men, women and children of all ages can be affected by all forms of alopecia.


Men are most commonly affected by Male Pattern Alopecia. This is measured on a scale of 1-8 called the Hamilton scale and can vary from mild ie temple hair loss to complete baldness at the crown and sides of the head.




Women are also affected by Female Pattern Alopecia.  This is measured on a scale of I-III called the Ludwig scale and can vary from mild hair thinning at the crown to a hairless crown.


Thankfully alopecia is uncommon in children, however, it does occur where systemic illness has been experienced.
